In September 2026, I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Fukui and would like to share my experience. This hotel opened in 2024 right in front of Fukui Station as the very first Marriott Group property in Fukui Prefecture. Known as the ‘Dinosaur Kingdom’ due to the vast number of dinosaur fossils discovered here, the town welcomes you with several dinosaur monuments right outside the station.

The hotel occupies the upper floors of the ‘FUKUMACHI BLOCK’ commercial complex, with its main entrance located on the 3rd floor. If you are arriving on foot, simply take the escalator from the entrance on the station side.

If you are arriving by car, the entrance near the parking lot and drop-off area is located on the 3rd floor.

The Entrance.

As the doors open, you’ll spot dinosaur footprints on the floor right beneath your feet. Follow these footprints to the elevator, which will take you up to the front desk on the 16th floor.

Once you reach the 16th floor, you’ll find the front desk tucked away in the back to your right. If you take the open atrium staircase on your left, it leads down to the restaurant floor on the 15th floor.

Lobby Area.

At the back, you’ll find ‘THE LOUNGE & BAR.’ Additionally, from the open atrium on the right, you can look down onto the 15th-floor restaurant, ‘Substance.’
The hotel offers four room types. The Superior and Deluxe rooms are identical in size, with the only difference being the view. For this stay, I opted for the entry-level ‘Superior’ room.

After checking in, I headed to my room. From the Superior room, the high-rise apartment building directly in front stands out just a little bit.

The room features a simple layout. Both Superior and Deluxe rooms come with a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub. While the shower booth has a large glass window, you can lower the blinds for privacy.

Breakfast is served buffet-style at ‘Substance,’ located on the 15th floor.

There was a small dinosaur waiting at the entrance of the restaurant! Throughout the hotel, subtle dinosaur touches like this are hidden here and there—just enough to add a fun bit of charm without compromising the stylish ambiance.

The open atrium design creates a wonderful sense of spaciousness.

There was even another dinosaur hanging out over in the food station area!

I was thrilled to see so many local Fukui specialties on the menu, including Echizen Oroshi Soba, local rice, miso soup, Japanese pickles, sesame tofu (Goma-dofu), and plum jam. The local signature soba noodles were especially delicious! They even had dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, so I couldn’t resist placing one right in the center of my plate.

It’s an incredibly clean and stylish hotel, and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a place to stay around Fukui Station!
